Selecting Wedding Favors: Fun or Chore?

Party favors are an age old tradition inherited from European nobleman who gave treats to guests to commemorate certain celebrations such as weddings and birthdays. Wedding favors were mostly edible sweets or almonds and in certain countries gifts of small vases filled with flowers were the tradition.

In today’s times, favors for certain occasions are expected and there is an ever increasing treasure chest of favors to choose from. Be they fancy party favors, or luxurious birthday favors bestowed on your 2 best friends, giving a keepsake is the best way honor your guest and say “thank you for being here.”

For the young bride, selecting wedding favors can run the gamut from being a fun experience or a hectic chore. Budgets are always an important consideration especially at a time when money is spread thin and there’s always last minute unexpected expenditures that find there way into your budget.

To avoid serious problems start early. Select your wedding favors six months before the special day. Arrange to have them shipped to your wedding location and inventory the stock. Decide how you will distribute them to your guests. Pay the bill as early as possible to get it off the ledger. You’ll have less work in the long run.

Themed wedding favors are still the most popular choices but don’t be afraid to step out of your theme. If you have a special talent or are good at crafts, consider designing and creating your own hand crafted favors. Ask close friends, bridesmaids or family to help. Be sure to start your project at least 9 months before the wedding so there will be no last minute glitches.

Remember that years from now, when your wedding favors are discovered hidden away in a drawer and once again brought to life, they will tell the story of your special day.
