Tips for Taking a Wedding Honeymoon Cruise

by Shannon Kietzman, writer for Your Wedding Place.com

If you are considering taking a honeymoon cruise, there are a number of basic factors to consider that go into planning any cruise. Taking time to thoughtfully consider each of them will result in a honeymoon cruise that will not only meet your expectations, but most likely exceed them.

Cruise Destination Climate Considerations

The climate is an important consideration that many couples overlook when planning a honeymoon cruise. Most cruises focus on Caribbean trips. For the most part, the Caribbean remains of moderate temperature because of the surrounding Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. There are, however, exceptions. During hurricane season, for example, cruise itineraries can be delayed, changed, or even cancelled completely. This season, which takes place from June 1 through November 30, can change your honeymoon cruise plans even if the storm is not directly in the path of your cruise. Therefore, you might want to plan your special day outside of this timeframe in order to ensure your honeymoon cruise plans are not disturbed.

You should also look into the climate of your destination before making plans for your honeymoon cruise. Things to consider include average rainfall, average temperatures, and other weather factors. Alaska and Hawaii, for example, both have special climate considerations. Hawaii generally has a moderate climate like the Caribbean islands, but there are few operating Hawaii cruises during the summer months. If you have your heart set on an Alaska cruise, on the other hand, you will have to plan your honeymoon cruise for sometime between May and September or early October.

Cruise Line Costs

Another factor to consider when planning a honeymoon cruise is the cost. While you certainly want to have a honeymoon to remember, you don’t want to start your life together with your sweetheart in a large debt. Therefore, you might want to consider booking your honeymoon cruise during the off-season months. Cruises are available year round, but September and October are considered off-season and can provide you with great discount cruise opportunities. Cruises are light at this time because the kids are back in school and there are no major holidays, so take advantage of the reduction in cost and the less crowded ship for your romantic honeymoon cruise.

On the other hand, you should avoid mid-March to the end of April if at all possible because this is Spring Break season. Late June is wedding season, so if you can break from tradition and choose a different time for your special day, you can catch a break in cost and have a more private trip.

A honeymoon cruise is a spectacular way to start your new life together. Through careful consideration and planning, you will be sure to get the best deal possible while still having a wonderful trip.
